Santa Cross Stitch Card

xstitch-santa

Another festive cross stitch card, this time showing a very happy looking Santa Claus! I love cross stitch cards for Christmas, but it is hard to judge who to send them to, as they take such a long time to make, and I don’t want them thrown out after a week with all the generic Christmas cards! I only give them to people who I know will appreciate them -  mainly my Gran, who keeps all the handmade cards I give her, and my mum.

Santa was stitched on to 16 count cream aida and mounted in a gold card. The card was a Christmas card I had received a previous year, but I couldn’t bear to throw out such a beautiful gold frame, so I turned it into an aperture card! This type of “recyling” is great because you can make stunning cards for next to no cost, all it takes is a bit of time and effort to do it – and for the right recipient, I love to spend longer than I probably should making a card perfect. Don’t you?

Merry Christmas everyone! Ten days to go!

Robin Cross Stitch Card

xstitch-robin2

You can tell it’s nearly Christmas when I start talking about robins! I love robins, they are such lovely birds. There is one that used to come into our garden and I used to watch him (or her – how do you tell?) fluttering about the garden.

This design was stitched on 14 count white aida. For once, I’ve mounted it in a shop-bought aperture card rather than making my own. I was given these cards as a gift, and I thought the rich red colour made them perfect for this cross stitch. The card has a simple embossed line just around the aperture, and I think that is all that is needed to give this card a finished look. Nice and simple, but still very much a card to be treasured because of all the work that went in to the stitching.

Floral Cross Stitch

xstitch-flowers

I’m dreaming of Spring flowers! This design was stitched onto 16 count white aida using 2 strands of floss. I liked this pattern because it is suitable for lots of different occasions – birthdays, Easter, Mother’s Day, thank you cards… etc

I wanted the rest of the card to be as bright and fresh as the flowers, hence why I decided on a yellow and green theme. I made a 6×6 inch yellow card and rounded the edges using my corner punch. I cut a square of green card and punched the edges with a decorative punch, before cutting a circular aperture from the middle. I mounted my cross stitch behind the aperture and stuck it to the yellow base card. To finish, I stuck a yellow circular frame around the aperture edge.

For once, I actually haven’t used any silver peel-offs on this design – I didn’t think it needed any because of all the decorative edges.

MUM Cross Stitch

xstitch-mum

I bought a load of cross stitch magazines at a car boot sale, and one of them contained a beautiful floral alphabet. I decided to stitch “MUM” so that I could use this card as a future Mother’s Day card (yes I know it’s a long time away!). I stitched the design on to 16 count pale blue aida, and added a row of flowers and leaves along the top and the bottom. I mouted the stitching in a pink A6 card. I embossed a flower to the bottom right of the card using a Fisker’s Embossing Board. All that was left was for my trademark silver peel-off stickers to finish the card off!

Another Kitten Cross Stitch

xstitch-kittens2

Here is another card that I’ve made using a kittens pattern from the book “Picture your pet in cross stitch“. Not much to say about this card really, other than it was mounted in an A6 silver card which I punched with a border punch by Fiskars. I put some yellow card behind the punchouts for some extra colour, and then added some silver peel-off stickers. The design was stitched on to 16 count white aida.

Puppies Cross Stitch

xstitch-puppies

This is another cross stitch card that I have made using a pattern from the book “Picture Your Pet in Cross Stitch” by Claire Crompton. If you enjoy stitching animals then I highly recommend this book. It has hundreds of small cross stitch projects of pets, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, parrots, lizards, snakes, fish and more!

I adapted a pattern of lots of different puppies to come up with the design for this card, as I only wanted to stitch two of them. The design is stitched on 16-count off-white aida and mounted in a red A6 card. I used a Fiskar’s border bunch along the bottom and stuck a white oval border around the aperture. To finish, I added some silver peel-offs.

Cross Stitch Mouse

xstitch-mouse

Near the beginning of the month I posted a photograph of a cross stitch card I made of several mice around a soap dish. This time, I have another mouse card to show you. The mouse is called Tom Mouse and he is a character from Country Companions. It was a free kit with a cross stitch magazine. There are lots of cross stitch kits available to buy featuring Tom Mouse, take a look at wye.co.uk for a great selection.

This design took quite a long time to stitch because of the pale purple flower in the background. I wasn’t going to stitch it as I thought it was unneccesary, but then I realised I had to because the bottom of the design was done to the shape of the petals, so it would have looked unfinished without the rest of the flower.

I mounted the stitching in a lilac hammered effect card which I cut a circular aperture from, and finished with some silver peel-offs around the circle and around the outside edge of the card.

Cross Stitch Mice

xstitch-mice

When I saw this pattern, I knew that I HAD to stitch it! The mice are adorable, and I love all of the bubbles going around the design. It was designed to be stitched as a soap holder for the bathroom, but I decided to make a card from it. The pattern is from one of the more popular cross stitching magazines, and was published a couple of years ago, but sorry I don’t remember the exact name of the publication.

The design is stitched on 16 count white aida and mounted in an A6 hammered effect lilac card. I added silver peel-offs around the aperture to make the edge look a bit neater, and also to add a bit of sparkle.

Kittens Cross Stitch

xstitch-kittens

This lovely cross stitch pattern is from a book called “Picture your pet in cross stitch“. It is a wonderful book which contains 76 pages of designs featuring pets of all shapes and sizes, including lots of different breeds of dog and cat.

I’ve stitched this design several times as it is fairly straightforward to do, and is so cute!

I stitched onto 16count pale blue aida and mounted the stitching in a silver A6 card. I added silver peel-offs around the edge of the aperture to add even more sparkle!

Rose Cross Stitch

xstitch-rose

Here is a card I made of a rose, which is cross stitched onto 16 count white aida. This was quite a challenging pattern to stitch because of all the submit colour changes. I think it would look better if I had gone out and bought the exact threads that the pattern stated, rather than just choosing from what I already had, because I think my colour changes are too obvious – in the original pattern they are much more subtle.

I made the aperture card myself from a 5×7 inch hammered pink card. I framed the aperture with a thin dark pink circle and added silver peel offs to finish the card.
