November news & iris folding

Hello! So much has been happening recently, I’m so busy! I’ve had to take a step back from crafting for the past couple of weeks because I have so much university work. This is a bit upsetting because I know that as time goes on my uni workload will get a lot bigger as I get more and more projects to work on, so I’m thinking that I won’t have much (if any) time to craft as the year goes on.

However, I will try to keep up to date with iris folding patterns, and keep sending them out to my pattern testers. I’ll also try and add some monthly freebies for November, but it won’t be for a while yet.

Some exciting news – I’m going to the HobbyCrafts show at the NEC this week and will be helping out on the CraftsUPrint stall and running workshops for the public. I’m really nervous but super excited too. I’ll be at the show all day Friday and Saturday, and I hope to meet lots of you there!

Here are some more iris folding cards that people have sent me – thank you! As ever, click the picture to view the pattern on craftsuprint where it can be purchased.

Here are some lovely Christmas cards made by my pattern testers using my new iris folding patterns. All of these iris folding patterns are available for sale on craftsuprint for only 80p each. Click the pictures to see the pattern on craftsuprint.

Spotlight on… Iris Folding

iris-folding

Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a design. The center of the design forms an iris — a shape reminiscent of the iris diaphragm of a camera lens. [Source: Wikipedia]

Over time, iris folding has evolved so that now not all patterns focus on the center “iris” design. Techniques such as paper piecing, fancy folding and multi-folds are now used to create more intricate and complex designs. Iris Folding looks like it takes hours to do, and often looks complicated, but in fact it is very simple and does not take much time at all to product something stunning.

There are over 1,100 iris folding patterns available for purchase on craftsUprint, for only 80p each! Once you have bought the pattern, you can print it out and use it as many times as you want! I personally have over 200 patterns for sale designed by myself, some of which are shown below.

I wrote some instructions on how to iris fold, fancy fold and paper piece and they are available for free on craftForums.co.uk. There are some additional instructions by Silvia Griffin on how to complete iris folding with several apertures.

Spotlight on… Castle Cards

castle-card

Castle Cards were a new card making technique that I devised back in June 2010. They are very simple to make, yet striking to look at, and will definitely stand out amongst other cards! The finished card will fold to fit inside a standard C5 envelope (A4 folded).

You will need two sheets to make the cards with. One is the main card template and the other contains pyramid layers, sentiment toppers and a back panel to write you message on. Castle Cards require very little equipment to make. Just some card or thick paper to print the sheets onto, scissors, double-sided tape or glue and 3D foam pads or silicon glue. Simple!

You can find Castle Card instructions on craftforums.co.uk.

Retiring Sheets for only 56p!

If a card making download has been available for sale on CraftsUPrint for over two years, and has never been sold, then it is put on sale for 56p instead of 80p. If, after a couple of months, the sheet has still not sold, it is removed from the site.

This is a great idea because it allows crafters to get great sheets at low prices. There are all sorts of reasons why a sheet might not have sold, for exampe perhaps it is placed in the wrong category by mistake so people never look at it, or maybe it is one of several colourways of the same design.

Another great advantage for CraftsUPrint crafters is that all of the sheets in the Retiring Soon area still have their gold stars attached! Why not have a look for some cut-price sheets to help you reach your new crafting level (silver, gold, etc) without spending too much money?

Click here for Retiring Soon sheets (priced at 56p each).
Click here for Retiring Soon backgrounds & inserts (priced at 14p each).
Click here for Retiring Soon kits (priced at £1.40 each).

All of the below sheets are on the special low-price as they are in the Retiring section. Click the image to view the sheet on CraftsUPrint, and add it to your basket!

October Iris Folding

Here are the next lot of iris folding patterns that have been made up by generous volunteers. I know there are a few of you waiting to be sent another pattern, but I have to ask you to bear with me for a while as I’ve run out, and need to make some more! I started my final year of university last week, so things are a bit hectic at the moment, but as soon as I get a spare couple of hours I will do some designing :-)

Click the name of the pattern to view it on craftsuprint. All of these patterns are available for sale at only 80p each!
