Santa was stitched on to 16 count cream aida and mounted in a gold card. The card was a Christmas card I had received a previous year, but I couldn’t bear to throw out such a beautiful gold frame, so I turned it into an aperture card! This type of “recyling” is great because you can make stunning cards for next to no cost, all it takes is a bit of time and effort to do it – and for the right recipient, I love to spend longer than I probably should making a card perfect. Don’t you?

This design was stitched on 14 count white aida. For once, I’ve mounted it in a shop-bought aperture card rather than making my own. I was given these cards as a gift, and I thought the rich red colour made them perfect for this cross stitch. The card has a simple embossed line just around the aperture, and I think that is all that is needed to give this card a finished look. Nice and simple, but still very much a card to be treasured because of all the work that went in to the stitching.

I wanted the rest of the card to be as bright and fresh as the flowers, hence why I decided on a yellow and green theme. I made a 6×6 inch yellow card and rounded the edges using my corner punch. I cut a square of green card and punched the edges with a decorative punch, before cutting a circular aperture from the middle. I mounted my cross stitch behind the aperture and stuck it to the yellow base card. To finish, I stuck a yellow circular frame around the aperture edge.

For once, I actually haven’t used any silver peel-offs on this design – I didn’t think it needed any because of all the decorative edges.
